Obituary for Helene Revenko

Helene Revenko passed away peacefully on Sunday under the care of Hospice by the Bay. During her care she was visited many times by loving family members. Helene was bright and articulate to the end. She always showed her characteristic smile, sense of humor, compassion and good commons sense. As a single woman throughout her life she continued her strong, self-possessed independent style that came to be her way.
Helene was born in then Czechoslovakia, the third of three siblings at that time. She immigrated with her family to the US in 1933 and settled in New York City and grew up there. Helene was a bright woman and decided to pursue a career as a textile designer after high school and graduated from the first class of the newly formed Fashion Institute of Technology and Design. She spent her career designing arts and crafts textiles working primarily at VIP division of Cranston Print Works with her longtime friend Joan Messmore. She retired as Design Director in 1993. Her designs could be seen in women’s clothing prints and in arts and crafts stores. Helene moved from New York in 2009 to settle close to family in California.
Helene is survived by her sister Trudy(spouse Dick Bernat), brother Victor(spouse Maggee), nieces Laura Revenko( spouse Mike Dooley), Liz Revenko ,Linda Backens (spouse Gary, children Michael( spouse Lisa) and David Backens) ,nephews Ronald Revenko(children Tim, Casey, Sean) , Richard Bernat (spouse Annette, children Alyssa, Rachael, Danielle), Steven Bernat( spouse Katie ,children Melisa (spouse Ted Sargent) and Nicholas) . Most live nearby.
Helene’s brother Bob, his spouse Jean and niece Susan Revenko predeceased her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Inspiration Chapel on Tuesday September 26 at 10 AM at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA 94549
