Obituary for Floyd Gill
Floyd W. Gill
April 19th, 1951-June 8th, 2017
Floyd W. Gill passed away on June 8th after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McClain Gill; daughter Kristine Reich; son Erik
McClain and adoring granddaughters, Jordyn Reich, Mackenzie Reich, Ava McClain
and Dahlia McClain.
His career in law enforcement began in 1986 as a Deputy Sheriff with the Alameda
County Sheriff’s Department and was a School Resource Officer with the Castro Valley
and Dublin School Districts. He received many awards and commendations, including
Police Officer of the Year three times. As a teacher for the Tri-Valley ROP program he
taught Criminal Justice and CSI classes. He had a gift of connecting with young people
as his granddaughters will attest. His students loved and respected him and he changed
the direction of many young lives.
He completed many hours of training in Gangs and Organized Crime to be a certified
instructor and taught many classes on gangs, guns and drugs.
As a proud Marine, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam and received numerous
marksmanship awards. He was a true Marine, honorable, courageous, committed and
loyal. And add a wonderful sense of humor.
He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. What a blessing and a
gift we have all received from knowing, loving and being with this wonderful man.
A memorial service will be held at Oakmont Memorial Park and & Mortuary, Lafayette on
Monday, June 26th at 2:00 P.M. Service for close friends and family.
