Obituary for Lilias Biegel
Lilias Merle Biegel, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. She was born June 16, 1924, in Fosston, MN to Joseph and Ragna (Bakken) Broin and was one of six children.
Lilias attended Bemidji Teachers College and the University of Utah, graduating with a teaching degree in physical education. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was Homecoming Queen, for the second time. After college she moved to the Bay Area to teach PE at Fremont HS, in Oakland. She continued her career at Laney Jr. College and became one of the first teachers at Alameda Jr. College, where she would retire in 1983.
Lilias married Lou Biegel in 1948, at the Piedmont Community Church. They settled in Lafayette, CA, where they raised their two children, Greg and Vicki.
Lilias was known for her love of being active. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed being outdoors- camping, hiking, or skiing. Lilias spent much of her time being with her family and attending her grandsons many sporting events. If she wasn’t outside or in the gym, you could find her playing bridge with her friends.
Lilias is survived by her daughter, Vicki Blackwood, grandchildren Gina Biegel, Justin (Janae) and Chris Blackwood, great-grandchildren Bennett, Dylan and Henry Blackwood. Services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lafayette, on April 26th at 1:00pm.
